Winter Running in the snow!

Brrr... winter has arrived early in Asheville this year. I have been bundling up and braving the cold weather and have been having training partners meet me for outdoor runs to help getting out the door to be a little easier! Yesterday Thomas and I did a crazy run from the house around Reuter Y then to the MTS trail and back home. There was at least 3 inches of snow on the ground that we had to maneuver around during the run. By the time I got home (after 1 1/2 hr run!) my calves were soooo sore from actually lifting my legs out of the snow. We had a great time and I am so thankful that Thomas and I share a love for running, it is a great thing to do together. :)
Here are some pics from our run.

Post Heart-Attack, Mom has lost 24 lbs!

On Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 my mom scared me and my family so much... she had a heart attack. She is doing well recovering now and resting... and she has lost 24 lbs in just 2 weeks! WOW! I am so proud of my mom, she changed her life more than 10 years ago when she found out she was diabetic. She changed her life when she found out she was gluten intolerant and now she has changed her life once again now that she has had a heart attack. Mom is limited to what she can eat now for her diabetes, gluten and heart and I am so proud of her for tackling this challenge so that she can live a long life. I love my mommy and told her she has to live forever. And I am serious, she does.

Getting in touch with Pain

Many of us spend our whole lives running from feeling, with the mistaken belief that you cannot bear the pain. But you have already borne the pain. What you have not done is feel all you are beyond the pain. - Saint Bartholomew

All the miles and hours of preparation builds me up physically and mentally to achieve what I set out to do with my body. For me, by the time I step to the starting line, the race is over. I'm going to succeed. The race itself is a form of active meditation on everything I've done. It's literally a celebration of the journey to get there.  - Richard Roll
